Harry Hill confirms TV Burp likely to end in March

Harry Hill has confirmed that the next series of TV Burp is likely to be the last.

In a blog on his website, the comedian said "it seems" the show will return for the final time in February and promised viewers that it would go out with a bang.

"The new (and, it seems last) series of TV Burp starts up on the 4 February and finishes eight shows later at the end of March in a huge finale - so make the most of it," Harry Hill wrote.

The show’s producer Avalon Television declined to comment on the matter and ITV could not be reached at the time of publication.

TV Burp has been a staple of the ITV1 schedule since 2002 and has picked up a number of Baftas, including best entertainment performance for Hill.

ITV1 has been preparing for life without the show for some time and, only today, it was confirmed that a new Dom Joly hidden camera show has been lined up for the TV Burp Saturday night slot in October this year.

Last week, ITV1 also ordered agony aunt-style entertainment show Keith Lemon’s Lemonaid for a similar Saturday night billing.

In an interview with Broadcast last week, ITV’s director of television channels and online Peter Fincham did not confirm what the future would hold for TV Burp. However, he said discussions were ongoing over a “range of things for the future” with Hill.

“He’s been doing TV Burp for a very long time and I think he wants to take a break from doing two series a year, and I can understand that. But he’s been a great success on ITV,” Fincham said.

The TV clips show has proved to be a real ratings winner for ITV, attracting audiences of up to 7.8m in its heyday. The last series in 2011 peaked with 5.39m (18.92%) on 19 November.
