Running down the year’s most can’t-miss films, Frozen Empire gets the nod, accompanied by a promotional photo, which sees the characters of Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) and Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon) investigating the damage of the famed New York City firehouse from the film’s icy threat.

Aligning with what’s shown in the previously released teaser trailer, the photo further suggests that one of Frozen Empire‘s plot points is centered around the Containment Unit. The damage and below-zero temperatures likely cause the risk of a sudden release of psycho-kinetic energy, which, in the classic 1984 comedy, the character of Egon Spengler would compare to “dropping a bomb on the city.”

For those that missed it, following the recent glow-in-the-dark cover reveal from Empire, another new photo from the set was featured, showcasing legacy characters Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) ready for action, with both being suited up and wearing upgraded, caution-striped clad Proton Packs.

The above photo raised questions among some fans about the conspicuous absence of Dan Aykroyd’s character, Ray Stantz. In a preview of the forthcoming Empire issue, Aykroyd clarified that his character has been forced to take a step back.

“Ray’s been retired!” explains Aykroyd. “He’s got fitness problems, insurance problems – Winston’s the shot-caller now and he decides Ray should step back from the ghostbusting frontline and just be an advisor. Ray does not like this. Gozer’s gone, but there’s an equally terrible threat emerging from Queens – by way of the Indus Valley – and Ray wants to be out there, driving the Cadillac.”

As we await the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire‘s highly anticipated full trailer, fans can grab an exclusive look at the film on January 18th, when the March issue of Empire magazine arrives on newsstands, available as two different glow-in-the-dark connecting collectible covers.
