Celeste O’Connor Expected to Return for 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' Sequel

With filming of the next Ghostbusters film set to kick off next week in the United Kingdom, it appears we’ve got the likely confirmation that Afterlife star Celeste O’Connor will reprise their role as Lucky in the upcoming sequel.

Lucky (Celeste O’Connor), Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), and Podcast (Logan Kim) in Columbia Pictures’ GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE.

While not entirely hard evidence, over the last few days, O’Connor has made it apparent that they’re currently in the UK, uploading a handful of photos to Instagram Stories, showcasing location spots, including the below, of the Row Barge Inn, located in the town of Henley on Thame within Oxfordshire, England.

At this time, Columbia Pictures Ghost Corps have yet to confirm O’Connor’s return. However, an update is expected within the coming days, with Production Weekly having the sequel pegged to begin filming on March 20th at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

In Afterlife, O’Connor played Lucky Domingo, a waitress at the roller-diner that Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard) gets a job at. In the movie, Lucky appeared eager to leave Summerville, Oklahoma. With the upcoming sequel, currently going under the working title of Hell’s Kitchen, returning to the franchise back to New York City, and carrying on the Spengler family story, Lucky’s return is expected, not only imperative to Trevor but the location change also serving as a payoff for the character, who in Afterlife, was questioned if they’d ever leave the fictitious small town.

Since Ghostbusters: Hell’s Kitchen was announced last June, Afterlife stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace have all been confirmed to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are expected to reprise their roles, with the same Production Weekly report stating that the film will include “a new group of Ghostbusters led by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd)” alongside Hudson, in an interview with Looper saying, “Everybody’s back. It’s a great script and a lot of fun.”

At this time, there’s been no word on whether Afterlife‘s Logan Kim (Podcast) will also be returning.

Ghostbusters: Hell’s Kitchen is slated to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023.
