Ghostbusters actor Kymberly Herrin unfortunately passed away late last month at age 65 following a battle with breast cancer, Ghostbusters News reports.
Herrin, who had an established career in modeling, even serving as the Playmate of the Month in the March 1981 issue of Playboy Magazine, will likely best be known for her role in Ghostbusters, playing the Dream Ghost, a seductive apparition that Dan Aykroyd’s character Ray Stantz encounters during the film’s montage.
Herrin’s character was initially set to play a more significant role within the film, serving as Stantz’s otherworldly love interest, with the scenes being filmed as a part of the eventual deleted Fort Detmerring sequence.
As part of the book Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History, Harold Ramis explained the concept behind the character, along with the sequence getting repurposed, saying:
“The idea behind the scene was to give Dan a love interest — a woman who’s been dead for a hundred years. But the scene was too long and it was in the wrong place in the film.”
Aykroyd also talks about the scene, referring to Herrin’s character as the seduction ghost.
“I don’t miss anything that we didn’t use. The ghost in the fort — the seduction ghost — in paranormal research that’s a common thing, ghosts doing sexual things to people. I have a friend who had three women visit him in a haunted house in Louisiana, and it was one of the greatest nights of his life. But in under two hours, you obviously can’t have everything."
Alongside Ghostbusters, Herrin’s other film roles include Romancing the Stone, Road House, and Beverly Hills Cop II.
I offer my condolences to Herrin’s family and friends.
