Sony Has No Plans to Delay Release of #Ghostbusters: Afterlife in the U.S. | #GB20 | #GhostbustersAfterlife
Ghostbusters: Afterlife not getting delayed?! (UPDATE)
With recent news that several high profiled films were getting delayed following the further spread of the coronavirus, many fans have been wondering if Ghostbusters: Afterlife could possibly be pushed back from its July 10th North America premiere.
While at the premiere of Bloodshot, Vanity Fair caught up with Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman to talk about how Sony was handling the delays, following news that Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway moved from March to an August release.
“Safety is the number one priority for us, and after monitoring the situation closely, going ahead with the premiere was the right thing to do… I’m comfortable being here. I’m a believer that people should get the proper information from medical professionals and make whatever decision they feel comfortable making. The real thing to do is to remain calm. Be informed, and make informed decisions. Our decision was to have this premiere, because it’s safe.”
The goes on to state that Rothman “has no plans to delay Sony’s other films, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife“, adding:
“So far there’s actually been no falloff in the box office in America or in England and most places in the world. So we’re pushing ahead strong with Bloodshot and with our other movies in the countries that are still in business… Obviously there have been some trouble spots in Asia and Italy, so we rearranged the dates on Peter Rabbit because that’s a very big European movie—and much more severe consequences are happening in Europe right now. You look at and adjust to it.”
I’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date as the story develops.
