As production of the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel continues in the United Kingdom, Dan Aykroyd, who previously confirmed his involvement in the film, has been busy making the media rounds, being asked about the film, and promoting his award-winning Crystal Head Vodka brand.
In a recent exclusive with the Metro newspaper, Aykroyd shed more light on the sequel while affirming the speculated involvement of franchise original Bill Murray.
In speaking about the production, Aykroyd, who earlier this week had high praise for co-star Patton Oswalt, referring to him as a comic genius, would say:
“We’re three-quarters through filming, which means it’s got to be edited and mixed, and the CGI has to be put into it.”
While it’s been strongly insinuated that Bill Murray would be returning in the untitled sequel, being seen multiple times in the UK, even being pictured seemingly on set alongside Aykroyd and British "comedian" David Walliams, we’ve yet to get a definitive answer on his involvement, but Aykroyd, being wonderfully loose-lipped, has confirmed that Murray will 100% be back.
“I’m excited about this one. It’s got a beautiful, heartfelt story, a great threat, some scary moments, and it brings back Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and myself, and we’ve handed the torch to new people, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon.”
In the forthcoming sequel, Murray and the original team members will reunite with the cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, comprising Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, and Celeste O’Connor. They will also share the screen with new additions to the franchise, including Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
