The Russo Brothers No Longer Working on Separate "Ghostbusters" Spin-Off

In addition to this summer's forthcoming Ghostbusters reboot from director Paul Feig, the original film's producer and director Ivan Reitman confirmed that there was another Ghostbusters film in development that would be scripted by Drew Pearce and directed by Anthony & Joe Russo. Later buzz brought back rumors that Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt may star in the movie. But since then, fans haven't heard anything about the proposed Ghostbusters spin-off, but that unfortunately changes today.

Now that the Russo brothers have taken on both parts of The Avengers: Infinity War for Marvel Studios, the duo is no longer involved with making the new Ghostbusters. But that doesn't mean it’s not still in the cards.

Speaking with Forbes (via Latino Review), here's what Joe Russo had to say about their involvement with a Ghostbusters project at Sony Pictures:

"There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about GHOSTBUSTERS and we were also engaging them. He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that's the only GHOSTBUSTERS world that's being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR it took us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a GHOSTBUSTERS project."

In addition to the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot and talk about a separate Ghostbusters spin-off, it was recently unveiled that Sony has been quietly developing a animated Ghostbusters movie via its Sony Pictures Animation, and that project recently took one step closer to reality.

Fletcher Moules, the rising animator and helmer behind the hugely popular animated Clash of Clans commercial spots, has signed on to direct the movie. Ivan Reitman would act as one of the producers.

It's Wacky!
It's Fun!
It's Cr-a-a-a-zy!
It's outrageous!
Fun House,
It's a whole lot of fun,
Prizes to be won!
It's a real crazy show where anything can go!
Fun House,
It's a quiz,
It's a race,
It's a real wacky place!
Use your body and your brain!
If you wanna play the game!

Dan Aykroyd Reveals '#Ghostbusters 3' is in the Works! | #Ghostbusters3 | #GhostbustersIII

Two years after the all-female reboot of the beloved 1980s franchise arrived, original star Dan Aykroyd is now promising that a true Ghostbusters 3, starring the three surviving OG ‘busters, is on its way. Many thought the death of Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler, in 2014 had put paid to a proper reunion, but Aykroyd’s comments suggest that we can look forward to him teaming up with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson in the near future.

While speaking on The Big Interview With Dan Rather, the man fans know as Dr. Ray Stantz, the heart of the Ghostbusters agreed with Rather’s wording that he was talking about making a “full-blown third Ghostbusters,” with an unknown writer already currently working on the script. Obviously, Aykroyd wouldn’t let on to anything about story details, but he did tease that it’ll try and recapture what worked so well about the original films while giving it a “21st century” twist.

“I think we got a story that’s gonna work. It’s being written by a really goo…
