Ghostbusters To Face Villains From New York's Underbelly Past

Although Sony has still to release the first trailer — or the first teaser trailer — for its upcoming Ghostbusters, more details are slowly being revealed!

According to Entertainment Weekly, the cast of villainous ghosts Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinon and Leslie Jones will have to take on and bust will include dead criminals from a variety of eras in the history of New York City, including Pilgrims, old-timey sailors (friends of Mr. Stay Puft?), Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters! However, it is not clear if there will be a head villain in charge of New York's shady spiritual past, like Gozer the Gozerian or Vigo the Carpathian from the first two movies.

That still doesn't give too much information, but director Paul Feig does suggest that a trailer may appear sooner than previously thought.

In addition to facing down ectoplasmic felons, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon,
and Leslie Jones have had to combat sexist social media rants about why women can't possibly fight celluloid spirits as well as Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray did back in 1984. So the pressure is on, both on screen and off.

"If this doesn't work, we go back and lose our [right to] vote," McCarthy deadpans. "I'm talking pre-suffragette."

However, those Internet haters may be headed straight for the Ecto Containment Unit.

To hold fans over in the meantime, a new photo (above) featuring the cast has been released, featuring the four Ghostbusters walking down a New York City street, next to what appears to be a firetruck that has turned on its side.

In related news, Charles Dance, best known for his guest stints on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year and for his role as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, has been cast in director Paul Fieg's Ghostbusters. The actor's role hasn't been revealed.

Ghostbusters wrapped production in September 2015 and will hit theaters on July 15, 2016.

Hitting screens more than 30 years later, the re-booted movie will star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and will feature cameos by the original and best Ghostbusters stars - Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts.

Paul Feig's Ghostbusters film stars Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan and Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann.
