We got one!
Actually, we got THREE!
People Magazine and Toon Zone has published three new photos — the first photos ever taken from the set of Sony’s all-new, all-female "Ghostbusters" movie! All three photographs are from the first day of shooting, but that doesn't always mean the first scenes written in the script. Judge for yourself what's happening in these shots.
The official plot synopsis for the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot is: Kristen Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
In the first photo, we see Melissa McCarthy hauling what appears to be the new "Ghost Trap" (or possibly a large computer hard drive), and Kate McKinnon in paint-splattered overalls and a pair of steam punk shades. It's up in the air which Ghostbuster archetype McCarthy is meant to fill in, but McKinnon's got an obvious Egon Spengler vibe going on... unless this movie features a guest appearance from Harley Quinn.
Shooting a separate scene, we see Wiig dressed in a scholarly plaid skirt and matching blazer, presumably taking place during her "teaching job at Columbia" phase. Kristen Wiig's outfit vaguely reminiscent of the traumatized librarian in the opening scene of the first film.
Wiig again... but just what is going on to her left?
The new "Ghostbusters" film is currently being filmed in Boston (and yes, it still takes place in New York). Paul Feig is directing and it's slated to be released on Friday 22nd July 2016.
While we don't know much about their roles, the ladies' getups echo Dan Aykroyd's recent comments that the new "Ghostbusters" are "just such different characters, and there's a friction – there's a dynamic there."
After seeing the first pictures, I think I'm beginning to feel excited about the new "Ghostbusters" movie!
