Lego Cuusoo has announced the very exciting "Ghostbusters" news that The Lego Group is developing a "Ghostbusters" Lego set to celebrate the movies' 30th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of "Ghostbusters 2"!
Lego Cuusoo is a website started by Cuusoo and The Lego Group that allows people to submit ideas for Lego sets. After a lengthy review process, Lego will select an idea and turn it into a mass-produced set for commercial availability. The original designer typically receives a small percentage of the royalties.
For LEGO's "Ghostbusters" set, designer Brett Waller submitted an idea of biblical proportions to commemorate the upcoming spook-tacular 30th anniversary of the blockbuster film "Ghostbusters". His GB Lego set features minifigs of the boys in grey - Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stanz, Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Dr. Winston Zeddemore. It also featured renditions of the Ectomobile (Ecto-1), which is based on a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Ambulance, Slimer the ghost (also known as Onionhead and Little Spud), phantasm-fighting paraphernalia - from proton packs, neutrino wands and slime blowers to PKE meters and ghost traps - and their New York Firehouse.
Having reached 10,000 supporters on the LEGO Cuusoo site last summer, Brent Waller's project moved into the Review stage, where a board of LEGO designers, product managers and team members scrutinised the concept.
After a lengthy review, it was decided that the "Ghostbusters" set met the criteria for release, and the Danish company today gave the "Ghostbusters" paranormal playset the thumbs-up. It will follow other CuuSoo sets such as the Mars Rover Curiosity and a limited edition Back To The Future DeLorean.
It is unclear if all or just some of the pieces will appear in the final product, though Lego Cuusoo confirmed the Ghostbusters set is "well into development" and based largely on Waller's original design of the car. Product images, pricing, availability and the Ghostbusters LEGO sets' release date are still being worked out, Lego Cuusoo said, but LEGO's "Ghostbuster" set is expected to be released later this year (2014)!
Check out the video from Lego Cuusoo, below, for more details - and be sure to browse the gallery below for a closer look at Waller's idea. Keep in mind that his mock-ups are not the final product. There's also no official word about whether the Ghostbusters' Firehouse headquarters building featured in Waller's submission will release with the set.
Other candidates in this round of Cuusoo consideration included a set of female scientists -- which is still under consideration -- a model of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, and a set based on "The Wizard of Oz".
The next round of possible candidates include fan-made sets based on "Sherlock", "Adventure Time", and "The Legend of Zelda". If you're a Lego fan, look out this year too for an official "Simpsons" playset and the "Lego Movie" starring Morgan Freeman, Elisabeth Banks and Will Arnett.
