Dan Aykroyd was a special guest on June 2nd's episode of The Chris Moyles Show, and while there to promote Crystal Head Vodka’s new limited edition Pride bottle, it didn’t take long for the conversation to shift, centering around the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel.

When speaking about the franchise, Toby Tarrant would bring up Ghostbusters: Afterlife, calling it “brilliant,” leading Aykroyd to talk about the film’s cast and how they’ll be “the ones that take over.”

“We’re handing the torch to a new generation. It’s someone younger now that has to put on that 50lb pack and go out there and expose themself to radiation. We have a terrific new cast: Mckenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard, and Logan Kim. The idea now is that they’re going to be the ones that take over. Now, Paul Rudd is also in it, and Carry Coon. I love the new cast, and it’s going to be their responsibility now to keep it going and keep New York clean of pesky ghosts.”

While not nearly as loose-tongued as some of his fellow co-stars, Aykroyd did talk about star Mckenna Grace, calling her “effectively the CEO of the new iteration,” mentioning her childhood dreams of one day becoming a member of the Ghostbusters.

“Mckenna Grace, when she was, you know, a little girl, she dressed up as a Ghostbuster for Halloween, and she said, “I am going to be a Ghostbuster someday,” and now she’s effectively the CEO of the new iteration.”

Near the tail end of the interview, Aykroyd would allude to the release date possibly getting pushed, saying that the sequel should be in theaters either “end of the year or spring,” going on to ensure fans that it’ll include “good scares and great comedy.”

“Either end of the year or spring, not sure, you know, it’ll be depending upon music and mixing and all the things that have to be done,” adding, “I’m excited about it because I see what we’re getting, and there’s some wonderful sequences and great comedy. Good scares and great comedy.”

Currently filming in the United Kingdom, at this time, the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, tentatively titled Firehouse, is slated to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023.
