Sigourney Weaver Reveals She Won’t Be In 'Ghostbusters: Firehouse'

With the filming for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel well underway in the United Kingdom, franchise star Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she won’t be back for the next installment.

Collider (via Ghostbusters News) reports that while taking part in a press tour for her upcoming film, Master Gardner, Weaver was asked about a possible return as Dana Barrett, and while she joked that she’d be back, only instead playing the role of Slimer’s mother, would go on to state:

“No, I mean, I wasn’t asked to be in this Ghostbusters, and I think, you know, a little of us goes a long way.”

While Weaver did reprise her role in Afterlife, her performance was used as a mid-credit scene, starring opposite Bill Murray, with the two taking part in a fun yet evidently painful ESP test, a nod to one of the earlier scenes in the 1984 comedy.

In similar fashion, Weaver also had a cameo in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, Answer the Call and was presented within a mid-credits scene, playing Jillian Holtzman’s mentor and late-hater, Dr. Rebecca Gorin.

At this time, Sony’s confirmed cast list for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Firehouse includes Afterlife stars Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, along with Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. Fans can also expect to see Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, and series originals Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. It's currently unknown whether Annie Potts will also reprise her character, Janine Melnitz.
