The next Ghostbusters film will serve as a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, carrying on the story of the Spengler family, it has been confirmed!
The announcement was made by the filmmaking team of Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan on the Sony Pictures Studios lot, home of Ghostbusters Day's Ecto-Fest event.
Much like how Afterlife was given the working title of Rust City, this next installment has also received a code name, with Reitman revealing:
“We’re writing another movie. Tonight, we’re going to share the code name for the next chapter in the Spengler family story,” adding, “The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was driving back into Manhattan: the home of Ghostbusters. That’s where our story begins. The code name is FIREHOUSE.”
The film is still currently being written by Reitman and Kenan, with no additional information being available at this time.
