New Unused Ghostbusters Theme Song Found

Unused “Ghostbusters” theme song finds its way online

When the original Ghostbusters film was released back in 1984, not only did it dominate the box office, but the iconic theme song quickly took over the billboard charts. Instilling such catchphrases as “who you gonna call?” and “bustin’ makes me feel good,” it’s hard to imagine the franchise with a different anthem.

Before Ray Parker Jr. came aboard, a handful of sample would-be theme songs didn’t make the cut, which is commonplace in Hollywood. Fans will likely recall a different theme song featured in the Ghostbusters teaser trailer.

The musical project known as Hughes/Thrall was enlisted to develop a theme, with one of these would-be themes now finding its way online via artist Pat Thrall’s Soundcloud. Check it out below:

Thrall added:

"This is the demo Hughes/Thrall and Peter Aykroyd pitched for the movie. It was declined. There has a been a version posted on YouTube claiming to be the HT demo but it wasn’t. Here for the first time it is finally posted. The guy that mixed it had been awake for a week on cocaine. It is one of the worst mixes ever"

It’s unfair to compare the Hughes/Thall demo theme up against Parker’s classic, especially given the 37 years worth of memories that it has helped create, and with Thrall adding the upload features “one of the worst mixes ever,” one has to wonder what a more refinished, finished version would sound like.
