Netflix Announces ‘Stranger Things’ Animated Series

The Duffer brothers tease that the series is in the vein of “Saturday morning cartoons.” Netflix on Monday (April 10) announced a straight-to-series order for an untitled animated series set within the Stranger Things universe. Plot details for the series are being kept under wraps, though Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer said it would be in the vein of “Saturday morning cartoons,” a reference to such popular 1980s-era series as The Real Ghostbusters , Masters of the Universe , Jem and the Holograms , Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joe , among others. It’s unclear if any of the flagship show’s beloved cast will have voice roles in the animated series. Sydney-based animation house Flying Bark is handling production on the untitled series, which hails from Eric Robles (Nickelodeon’s Glitch Techs , Fanboy & Chum Chum ). It has been announced that original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Ray Stantz), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett) and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) will all have roles in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot movie!! Ernie and Sigourney's roles in the new Ghostbusters film are currently unknown, however, Billy will play a ghost debunker, Dan will reportedly play a conspiracy-obsessed cab driver in a scene with Kristen Wiig, in which he will apparently drop the famous "I ain't afraid of no ghosts" line, and Annie will play a small role as a hotel receptionist in the Ghostbusters movie!
